DPVR, a Shanghai-based company specializing in virtual reality (VR) device design and manufacturing, has officially launched the DPVR 4G / 5G module for its all-in-one virtual reality headsets. The company stated that the new module is designed to suit to the global enterprise market and will enable verticals such as education, training, healthcare and conferences and exhibitions to integrate the use of virtual reality headsets in situations that require remote or mobile usage.

According to DPVR, the newly developed external module can be adapted to fit the company’s all-in-one VR headsets, and supports 5G / 4G / 3G  and 2G* frequency bands around the world. Operation is straightforward thanks to the module’s plug and play functionality, with users required to simply insert a local SIM card, allowing them to quickly enter any VR environment.

4G/5G VR headset application: Beekeeper training program with XR Global

The company added that the new 4G / 5G modules have several possible applications for outdoor usage. One example that DPVR highlighted was for a Beekeeper training program from South Africa-based VR company XR Global.

“Many African regions do not have reliable access to Wi-Fi connectivity. Since beekeeper training projects carry certain risks, the 4G/5G module and VR all-in-one headset prove invaluable to use in the field, where trainee beekeepers may not have access to Wi-Fi. The DPVR devices are well suited to such an environment, as they not only ensure access to data networks, but also help to lower the risks of beekeeping training, which is something that has been well received by local users.”

More to explore with the new 4G/5G Module VR Headset

In a post-pandemic era, many companies are actively looking to transition to mobile office working environments, and while many workers will use their local internet providers, for situations where there is limited internet access, having the ability to connect a headset directly to a 4G or 5G network opens up a range of new possibilities for using VR in the field.

Several VR software providers such as Horizon Workrooms, vSpatial and Engage have launched solutions for virtual meetings and offices, aiming to help improve efficiency and employee working environments by providing virtual worlds in which workers can effectively collaborate whilst not physically located in the same space. DPVR stated that with its 4G / 5G module, users can now access these sorts of collaborative VR experiences whilst away from wifi access, which will enable increased communication between internal and external teams and provide more options for collaboration with external partners located around the world.

DPVR noted that its all-in-one VR headsets coupled with the company’s new 4G / 5G module will provide the enterprise with a deployable solution for employees around the world in practically any location, enabling a more flexible approach to working. All of DPVR’s P series headsets are compatible with the new 4G / 5G module.
